In Pictures: Work continues at Newhaven

As we saw in the most recent updates from the City of Edinburgh Council, work to bring trams back to Leith and Newhaven as part of the Trams to Newhaven project continues to make good progress and remains on target to allow trams to start running next spring. In this latest update we head to the very end of the line at Newhaven to see recent work there. Roy Calderwood is the photographer.

The 2.91 mile (4.69 km) extension will see eight new stops added to the Edinburgh Trams network. It is a continuation of the current line from York Place to Newhaven via Leith and includes access to Ocean Terminal. Construction work got underway in 2019 and the project is scheduled to be completed to allow trams to start running a public service in spring 2023 following a period of testing and commissioning from early 2023. It also remains within budget.

This first view is looking east towards Ocean Terminal at the Newhaven terminus with platforms either side of the double track. The stop is on Lindsay Road at the junction with Hawthornvale. The secure area to stable a tram overnight will be behind the photographer.

Here we are looking west over what will be the secure stabling area and towards the end of the line with the wall of the small staff amenity building seen. Lindsay Road is beyond the fence on the left.

The tramstop has also got its signage installed already. (All Photographs by Roy Calderwood, 2nd October 2022)
