In Pictures: Blackpool Marton VAMBAC 11 runs at East Anglia Transport Museum Trolleybus Weekend!

Whilst most Blackpool tram fans may have had their eyes turned towards the Fylde Coast over the weekend of 24th and 25th September, there was another Blackpool tram which was causing excitement over on the other side of the country. The unique Marton VAMBAC 11 was used briefly in service at the East Anglia Transport Museum’s Trolleybus Weekend – thought to be its first use since at least before the pandemic hit in 2020.

The Trolleybus Weekend at the East Anglia Transport Museum is their main event of the year and although the name suggests that it is for the trolleybus side of operation at the museum the trams also get a significant look in! As with other big events at other heritage transport locations one of the big pulls of the event is that most things which can run do and for the 2022 Trolleybus Weekend that included the return to action of Blackpool Marton VAMBAC 11. The single decker ran briefly on both days and is hopefully the start of an upturn in its fortunes and more regular operation.

Sheffield 513 at the original tramway terminus – before it was extended through the woods. This will in time become a through route onto the new land with the new tram depot under construction seen behind the tram.

The following day and its 11 again. This time we see it outside the depot.

Another look at 11. The eagle eyed amongst you may also note Sheffield 513 in this photo.

Its shrunk! Also appearing at the event was this delightful miniature Bournemouth trolleybus. Its alongside Biel trolleybus 39.

Work is underway on Blackpool Brush Car 290 with some panelling removed. We understand it’s the intention to restore the tram to its 1980s condition – so that will make it 627 again! Alongside is Amsterdam 474 whilst Lowestoft 14 is behind.

Work is also continuing on the construction of the new tram depot. Once the building is completed there is still a fair amount of work to be completed included the installation of more track, pointwork and a floor. (Photographs x6 by Bryan Grint, 25th September 2022)
