More overhead line works on the West Midlands Metro

The final phase of the currently planned upgrade works to the overhead on the West Midlands Metro is set to get underway later this month which will see some disruption to late night services on selected dates during August and September.

The majority of the upgrade works will be taking place “out of hours” but it is necessary at times for trams to end early to allow for some of the work to take place.

Disruption will be as follows:

Sunday 21st until Wednesday 24th August

  • From 2200 until the end of service on each day trams will only run from Wolverhampton St George’s to Wednesbury Parkway
  • No trams will run between Wednesbury Parkway and Edgbaston Village after 2200

Sunday 28th August to Thursday 1st September, Sunday 4th to Wednesday 7th September and Sunday 11th to Thursday 15th September

  • After 2200 trams will run Wolverhampton St George’s to Black Lake only
  • There will be no trams between Black Lake and Edgbaston Village from 2200 on all dates

Metro tickets will be accepted on National Express bus services during the disruption as follows:

  • 79 between Wednesbury and West Bromwich
  • 74 between West Bromwich and Birmingham
  • All services between Colmore Road, Broad Street and Edgbaston
