Picture in Time: Blackpool Brush Car 634

As we celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this weekend this additional edition of “Picture in Time” takes us back to a previous Jubilee – the Silver Jubilee to be precise as we see Brush Car’s 634‘s special Jubilee livery.

We’ve seen that for the Platinum Jubilee, Blackpool Transport have applied low-key vinyls to Flexity2 010 to commemorate the occasion but back in 1977 for the Silver Jubilee the tram which celebrated the event was a lot more eye-catching! In reality this livery was just a revision of a special livery applied in 1976 for the Blackpool Borough Centenary but did see the roof advert boxes and trolley tower area see amendments to the livery.

Seen at the southbound Talbot Square stop here we see 634 with its Silver Jubilee adverts – complete with large seagulls, we’re not sure whether Her Majesty is a big fan of seagulls or not! – as it pauses on its way to Starr Gate. Balloon 722 waits to follow it (still with twin destination indicators). Date of the image is 11th April 1977.
