Picture in Time: Blackpool Jubilee 762 & Balloon 712

Today we are back in 1987 for this latest archive view from Blackpool as we take a look at two trams operating on the Prom during the main summer season.

These two trams are Jubilee 762 and Balloon 712 which are seen at the Victoria Street stop with both running to the respective end of the line. On the right 762 us running through to Starr Gate whilst 712 is just approaching the stop bound for Fleetwood.

Of course both of these trams started off life as Balloon Cars (although the Jubilee Car was from the second batch which were fully enclosed from the get go) and by the time this photo was taken they were over 50 years old but would still have almost another 25 years of front line service! Its interesting to think that fast forward to today they have now both been preserved at the Crich Tramway Village with 762 operational and 712 a static exhibit in the Great Exhibition Hall.

Also of note in this photo is the surroundings. The Tower overbridge is very much in evidence behind the trams whilst Pricebusters is still open and there are two buses running along the Prom road.
