Supertram launch Re-connect campaign

Stagecoach Supertram have launched a new campaign aiming to get people to use public transport again. “Re-connect” is using specially created artwork by local artist Luke Horton which is being affixed to tram windows in an attempt to encourage people to ditch their cars in order to travel on the trams once more.

Metro passengers urged to switch from paper tickets to save money

Nexus are encouraging passengers on the Tyne and Wear Metro to switch from paper tickets to Pop Pay As You Go to save money on the cost of travel across the network. Pop ticket prices will not be increasing in 2022 and give a saving of 85p per journey.

West Midlands Metro extension works in Dudley continue with concrete pour

Away from the high-profile lack of trams on the current West Midlands Metro there continues to be good progress on adding additional lines to the network in the future with the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill extension having recently hit another milestone. The 11km extension, due to open in 2023, has seen a concrete pour following on from the laying of the first new track in Dudley Town Centre.

New card validators being installed on Edinburgh Trams

With Edinburgh Trams set to introduce improved contactless ticketing options in the future, new validators are currently being installed at stops. The current validators are used by passengers to touch-on their Ridacards, concession passes and other smartcards to validate them before travelling but in the future the new machines will enable contactless payment methods to be used without the need to purchase a paper or electronic ticket.

SNP promise further Edinburgh Trams extensions if they win Council elections

New Metro train driving simulator gets the once over

A driving simulator which will be used to train drivers on the Tyne and Wear Metro’s new trains before they are introduced from next year is currently being built in France and a team from the Metro Futures, Learning and Development and Train Crew teams have recently been over to run the rule over it.

Late night trams in Edinburgh for Terminal V festival

Nottingham Contactless launched across transport modes

Travel on certain public transport operators across Nottingham has now become a lot simpler with the introduction of “Nottingham Contactless”, said to be the first Oyster-style contactless ticketing system in the country outside London. There is a catch though, it is only valid for travel on Nottingham Express Transit, Nottingham City Transport buses and Linkbuses operated by CT4N.

Parents urged to check in with their children after string of attacks on Greater Manchester public transport

After a spate of attacks on public transport in Greater Manchester – trams, trains and buses – parents are being urged to check in with their children to make sure they know what they are up to. Rocks, bricks and stones have been thrown at public transport over the past few months leading to injuries for both staff and passengers with the Greater Manchester TravelSafe Partnership (TSP) now increasing patrols to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

Surprise! Another tram arrives on Metrolink

Monday 11th April saw a bit of a surprise turn up in Manchester as the latest M5000 was delivered – not only coming just over a week since the last delivery but also a rare midweek delivery. 3139 was the tram that caught us by surprise (we were going to say everyone by surprise but we presume Metrolink were expecting it to arrive!).

More disruption for Supertram as overhead repairs still to be finished, Network Rail signalling problems and Police Van collision all contribute

We’re not sure how many mirrors Stagecoach Supertram have broken recently but it seems the bad luck keeps on coming with the past few days seeing more disruption – including the ongoing disruption on the Blue route to Halfway. In addition to those overhead problems there has been a signalling fault on Network Rail preventing the Tram-Train service to running to Rotherham Parkgate and to compound matters on Monday 11th April a Police Van collided with 121 on Middlewood Road.

In Pictures: Stops get a sign of services coming soon

Its all gone a little bit quiet on the extension front in Blackpool since the first trams ran along Talbot Road to the new terminus close to Blackpool North Railway Station and its likely that there won’t be much more to report on for a while with the terminus remaining in the middle of a building site. One thing to report on though is the adding of name signs to the stops along the route.

Norwich 39 up for sale on Facebook Marketplace!

202 receives new advert as NET back campaign to protect women and girls

Nottingham Express Transit 202 is now carrying adverts as part of their backing for a new initiative driving home a powerful message about protecting women and girls from sexual violence. Led by Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry the “A-Z of Consent” message is part of a project aiming to increase the safety of women and girls in the city and reduce violence.
