New survey shows passengers are satisfied with West Midlands Metro

More than nine out of ten passengers are satisfied with the West Midlands Metro according to a recent survey undertaken. The latest numbers are an increase from the last time a similar survey was run and management at West Midlands Metro have expressed their pleasure at these results.

Two more Metrocars go for scrap

In the recent update from Nexus on how they are planning the phased introduction of the new trains for the Tyne and Wear Metro they also mentioned how as units enter service it will lead to the continued disposal of already withdrawn and stored original Metrocars. And that is exactly what has happened recently as two further trains have gone away to meet their end.

Isle of Man heritage lines 2025 timetable revealed

Full dates of operation and planned timetables for the Isle of Man Steam Railway, Manx Electric Railway, Snaefell Mountain Railway and Duglas Bay Horse Tramway in 2025 have now been announced. The dates of operation had previously been announced in 2025 but this is the first time that the full timetable has been published.

In Pictures: Trackwork continues at Beamish

The major investment in the infrastructure at Beamish, which has seen no trams run since the start of 2025, is continuing with good progress being made on the track replacement work at the east end of the 1900s town (the end where the 1950s town starts). This is just one part of the investment being put into the tramway this winter which will see the trams back running by the spring.

In Pictures: Triple tram in Manchester!

We have become very used to seeing double trams in Manchester with the extra capacity vital on the network for certain services and lines. But its not often that we have seen triple trams, although we change that here as Friday 31st January 2025 saw that very thing happen – although of course they weren’t in service with it being part of a rescue after a failure.

UKTram campaigns for change in law to allow young volunteers at heritage lines

The limited number of volunteers available in the heritage tramway and railway sector has been a recurring theme in recent years. A bid to allow young people (under 16) to work as volunteers in the sector is now being backed by UKTram to try and increase the pool of volunteers to help keep tramway and railway heritage on track for future generations.

Work to start on Magna Tram-Train stop – after confirmation of cost increases

Work on constructing a new stop on the South Yorkshire Supertram Tram-Train route to Rotherham Parkgate is set to start in February 2025 with it being ready for opening in November 2025. Confirmation of a start date for work has come after the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) revealed there has been a small increase in costs connected to the project.

NET launch new “Think Tram” safety campaign

In Pictures: Supertram 115 gets some new vinyls

The short-term JD Sports vinyls which had been seen in both Manchester and Sheffield are now no more with those carried on Supertram’s 115 removed and replaced by a new set promoting Park and Ride sites at stops across the network. Metrolink’s 3118 had lost its vinyls during January.

New bus and tram tickets in Manchester to make travel even cheaper

Travelling on Bee Network buses and trams in Manchester is set to get even cheaper from March with the launch of a new annual ticket which will allow passengers to enjoy unlimited travel for the equivalent of between £2.75 and £4.10 a day.
