Western Train to North Station!

Things you probably don’t expect to see early morning in mid-October? How about the Blackpool Western Train running fully illuminated along Talbot Road to North Station?! But that is exactly what happened on Tuesday 22nd October with the tram going onto the extension ahead of its potential use in December.

Tram track tests prove viability of innovative alert system

In Pictures: Track goes down on West Midlands Metro extension to Dudley

In another pictorial update from the West Midlands Metro extension to Dudley we take a look at some of the more recent progress on the reserved section of the line at the start of route towards Wednesbury (before it gets to Dudley and becomes a more on-street tramway). Although some of these updates have shown little progress these photos – taken by Chris Allsop-Buckler – show more changes which includes the laying of track.

In Pictures: Sunderland 16 returns to service at Beamish

Its absence from service may only have been brief but Sunderland 16 is now back in use at Beamish following the completion of the first phase of its repaint. The tram is, as always, an integral part of the winter operating fleet at Beamish and will return to the workshops in 2025 for the completion of the repaint.

Winter Blackpool Tramway timetable to see most trams go via North Station

Sunday 10th November will be the next change to the timetable on the Blackpool Tramway as the Winter timetable is introduced. This marks another improvement in the tram service with the vast majority of services now running via North Station – including after 1900 each evening (as opposed to the current illuminations timetable which sees the extension not used post 1900 every day).

Threat of strike action over in Edinburgh

There should now be no strikes impacting Edinburgh Trams services in the near future after an agreement was reached between the company and union members represented by Unite. Although there had been no strikes called because of the issue the threat had been hanging over the network since members voted in favour of industrial action over the lack of suitable rest periods since the Newhaven extension opened.

Stourbridge Shuttle team welcome local MP

The Stourbridge Shuttle, which connects Stourbridge Junction to Stourbridge Town and uses a Parry People Mover to do so, has recently welcomed local MP Cat Eccles and Cllr Jason Griffin to discuss the future of Shuttle operations as well as their vision for the proposed “Dasher” project which would connect Stourbridge with Canal Street.

As well as the main London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, there is also a museum store located at Acton which contains many more exhibits which there just isn’t room for at the museum. The store is open on select dates for special Open Days (as well as guided tours), one of which took place over the weekend of 27th and 27th April 2023.

In Pictures: Supertram goes as far as Arena

The latest engineering works on the South Yorkshire Supertram system took place over the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October. This time they were working on the overhead at Valley Centertainment which saw Yellow route trams only able to operate as far as Arena.
