Another car on the tracks at St Chad’s causes Metro delays

West Midlands Metro services into Birmingham City Centre suffered delays on Wednesday 6th November after a car got stuck on the tracks at St Chad’s. No trams were able to run between St Paul’s and Library for around four hours whilst the car was removed.

In Pictures: A walk along the Dudley extension – Part 1

This is part one of a walk along the route of the West Midlands Metro extension to Dudley showing recent progress on construction work. Slated to open in late 2025, the extension leaves the current West Midlands Metro line at Wednesbury and will run to Flood Street, Dudley using a mixture of reserved track on a former railway line and street running. In this part we start at the beginning of the line (for it’s a very good place to start) and see some of the good progress made recently. Andy Walters with the images.

West Midlands Metro to offer free travel for armed forces

West Midlands Metro are the latest UK tramway to confirm that on both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day they will be offering veterans, current members of the armed forces and cadets free travel. They will also be observing a moment of silence to honour those who have fallen in the two world wars and more recent conflicts.

A trip to… East Anglia Transport Museum

In this article we head to the East Anglia Transport Museum once again for some late season views. This visit by Bryan Grint was on Thursday 24th October (the penultimate Thursday opening for 2024) when the tram service was being operated by Sheffield 513 and London Transport 1858 with trolleybus interest provided by Derby 237.

Rita Ora is voice of Metrolink ahead of MTV EMAs

If you happen to be travelling on the Manchester Metrolink network you may be in for a bit of a surprise as Rita Ora will be taking over the tram announcements at selected stops. This is all in conjunction with the MTV EMAs which take place on Sunday 10th November at Co-Op Live with Rita Ora presenting the ceremony. The announcements will provide important tips on how to get around and plan journeys, while also helping to put a smile on the faces of passengers.

In Pictures: The first rescues the last in Blackpool

The sight of one modern tram towing another is a relatively rare one across all UK light rail systems. Although breakdowns do inevitably occur, its often the case that the failed tram is able to crawl back to the depot under its own power after a little bit of attention from a fitter and a laptop. However, Monday 21st October in Blackpool saw a tram having to be towed back to depot as captured in these photos from Steven Hughes.
