Manchester Metrolink M5000 3033 has returned to service after almost a year on the sidelines. The tram was first seen back in service on Friday 22nd November with it allocated to the East Didsbury to Shaw and Crompton and Rochdale Town Centre lines.

The operator were first in the Environmental and Sustainability Initiative category whilst there was also success with a Highly Commended accolade in the Best Customer Initiative category.

A trip to… Manchester Metrolink

More photos in this article, this time coming from Manchester Metrolink during a visit on Saturday 2nd November 2024. We see several trams in advertising liveries as well as others in the usual fleet livery. A demonstration in the city centre meant that some services had to be diverted off 2CC onto 1CC, giving the unusual sight of trams destined for East Didsbury coming into St Peter’s Square from both routes. Concrete cracks to be repaired on Edinburgh Trams extension

An exclusive story in the Edinburgh Evening News has revealed that concrete cracks have been found in 75 locations on the tram extension to Newhaven which opened to the public in June 2023. Work to repair these cracks – with some repairs having to be repaired again – is already underway with original Sacyr Farrans Neopul (SFN) consortium completing the work under the two year defect liability period.

Former carer goes back to work and lands dream job as a tram driver

Chris Bruce has always dreamt of being a train or tram driver but thought that the chance had passed but thanks to a scheme in the West Midlands which prepares people who have been out of the job market for some time he has managed to realise his dream. The 59 year old is now working as a driver on the West Midlands Metro and has been recognised with a Learning for Work Adult Learner 2024 award.

Anyone travelling on the Tyne and Wear Metro will now be able to get personalized travel alerts thanks to an upgrade of the Pop app. This will allow passengers to be kept up-to-date about the current service on the network straight to their smartphone.

A £5.3 million project restoring the historic canopy at Whitley Bay Metro Station is entering a new phase as work moves on to focus on the atrium at the front of the building. This comes as some scaffolding starts to come down allowing passengers using the station on a daily basis the chance to see the restored canopy for the first time.
