TWAO submitted for Cardiff tramway

Following the release of details of last year’s public consultation into the planned tramway for Cardiff Bay, it has been confirmed that Cardiff Council have now submitted an application for a Transport and Works Act Order, an important step towards construction of phase one of Cardiff Crossrail.

North Station to be served by trams throughout Illuminations – mostly

Last year when Blackpool’s famous Illuminations were switched on came the news that after 1900 on every night no trams would run along the newly opened extension to North Station. This was obviously met with consternation but the timetable which saw this happen remained in place throughout the lights season. However, 2025 is set to be very different as there are no plans to regularly stop trams running along Talbot Road, although it may be required at times depending on traffic.

In Pictures: Seaton Tramway celebrate 55 years!

Happy Birthday to the Seaton Tramway! The first public tram services started running on the tramway on this day (28th August) in 1970, between Riverside and Bobsworth Bridge (just short of the new Seaton Wetlands halt). To help celebrate the occasion there was a special anniversary weekend on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August and in this article we take a look at a selection of images taken during that event. Network Rail launches new Tram Train Learning Hub

One of the key points of the UK Tram-Train pilot between Sheffield and Rotherham was that it would provide knowledge for future projects to ensure they could go-ahead with much hitch. To that end Network Rail have recently launched their enhanced Tram Train Learning Hub.

UKTram Light Rail Operators Committee meet in Dublin

West Midlands Metro works ahead of the return to trams to St George’s

In Pictures: Blackpool 007 back to full fleet livery

007 has become the second tram (plus those which have had other adverts applied) to have had long expired adverts removed after its second side was stripped of the NHS Donor campaign adverts during August 2025. We’d previously seen that the tram had lost the adverts on one side and now Blackpool Transport have returned to strip the opposite side as well.

Old Metro trains aren’t being scrapped – they’re being recycled!

But no, far from it, they are actually being recycled as much of their used metals are being repurposed and shipped abroad to support manufacturing.

New team help to make travel easier in Blackpool

TfGM start procurement for new Metrolink infrastructure contract

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has started a procurement process which will deliver an up to £1.6 billion investment into the infrastructure of Manchester Metrolink. The new contract will cover Metrolink’s asset renewals programme, and could also include other improvement works.
