Metro extension to see more progress through Dudley

Work on the West Midlands Metro extension to Brierley Hill – slated to open in 2023 – is set to see further progress in the coming weeks with work on Castle Hill, Dudley due to move to the other side of the road from Monday 27th June. This comes after the completion of tracklaying on one side of the road – the first major section of rails to be have been laid on the complete extension which leaves the current Metro line at Wednesbury.

You wait ages for a new advert and then several come at once! After the end of last week saw Edinburgh Trams 264 receive adverts for Tennent’s Light we have now seen sister trams 251 and 275 receive new designs, for St James Quarter and Play at Edinburgh Park respectively.

Fleetwood Heritage Leisure Trust still looking for a new owner for Balloon 710

If you ever read the comments section of this website, or indeed many other places on the internet, you will be well aware that the story of Blackpool Balloon 710 is one which sees passionate exchanges from all sides. It’s a tram which remains owned by the Fleetwood Heritage Leisure Trust but as part of the disbanding of their collection they are still seeking a new owner for the tram which it seems is proving to be a pretty hard thing to do.

In Pictures: Work continues on Seaton Wetlands Halt

Work on one of the latest additions to the Seaton Tramway is continuing with the new stop at Seaton Wetlands making progress although yet to be completed. Originally due to open last year various factors have delayed the work but it is still hoped that it will be open in time for the peak summer season giving better access to the Seaton Wetlands area.

Another three month closure for the Eccles line

Those who rely on Manchester Metrolink’s Eccles line are set to be hit by another three month closure later this year with Transport for Greater Manchester confirming the third phase of rail replacement works this year. Trams will not run between MediaCityUK and Eccles from Saturday 16th July and Friday 21st October.

In Pictures: John Bull heads to Wales

John Bull, Crich’s steam tram engine, went on a brief visit to the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway last month for the “Beyer Bash” event which saw various historic vehicles constructed by the former Beyer, Peacock works on display and in operation at the museum. This was John Bull’s first trip away from Crich since 2009 and marked the first time it had been to Wales in its almost 140 year history!

North East Rail and Metro Strategy approved

The North East Joint Transport Committee have approved the first North East Rail and Metro Strategy, which outlines plans to upgrade the East Coast Mainline, reopen the Leamside Line and, most pertinent to this website, extended the Tyne and Wear Metro. The strategy looks as how things could be by 2035 but as is often the case with documents such as this is a little light on actual detail.

Daytime testing to start on Blackpool Tramway extension

Up to seven days of daytime testing on the Blackpool Tramway extension along Talbot Road to Blackpool North Railway Station is set to take place from Monday 27th June it has been confirmed in social media posts by both Blackpool Council and Blackpool Transport. But don’t get excited that this will mean you will be able to enjoy a tram ride on the line soon as the Blackpool Transport announcement states that services will begin in 2023 (another delay in the already delayed schedule – the last official word was November 2022).

3141 enters service on Metrolink – involved in collision on first day!
