Pride Tram hits the tracks in Nottingham ahead of 2026 celebrations

UKTram relaunches Operational Innovation Group

They have now relaunched the Operational Innovation Group, which is planned to be a dedicated forum for the light rail sector to explore new ideas, share operational experience, and identify practical opportunities for innovation.

Restoration underway on Aberdeen Corporation Tramways 15

The restoration of Aberdeen Corporation Tramways 15 is now underway following its move to Northumberland in mid-April 2026. The tram, which is usually housed at the Bus Collection at Alford in Aberdeenshire, is being restored thanks to a bequest with the work expected to take several years.

King Charles III visits Isle of Man – and takes a ride on a horse tram!

New accreditation framework for tram driver competency piloted

The Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) are leading on a project which will see a new accreditation framework for tram driver competency and professional development piloted. The aim is that it will strengthen tramway safety standard across the UK with a clear and consistent baseline for driving standards and training across the light rail sector introduced.

555 025 becomes the 42ndStadler train to enter service

Old Metro track recycled for new South Tyneside war memorial

NET commit to improving services at Light Rail Conference

With the event taking place in Nottingham the city’s tram system played a significant role on the day and this included a commitment from the operator in making sure they were running a service that could be relied upon.

Funding released for development work on new tram stop in Nottingham

The East Midlands Combined Authority (EMCA) have released funding which is set to go towards additional development work on a proposed extra tram stop on Nottingham Express Transit. The tram stop would be built at the city end of Nottingham Station viaduct, and has been a long-term aspiration for a while.

Supertram announce the start of another summer of major renewal works

In Pictures: 125 breaks down at Hillsborough

South Yorkshire Supertram were unable to serve either Malin Bridge or Middlewood for a time on Wednesday 15th July 2026 following the failure of 125. Whilst the tram was repaired to be moved away from the scene all services on both the Blue and Yellow routes were turned at Middlewood.

Metro Airport line to close for upgrades

The Tyne and Wear Metro will be closed for nine days between the Airport and South Gosforth in August to allow more upgrade work to take place. As part of Nexus’ continued approach to complete as much work as possible during planned line closures this will coincide with the continued redevelopment of Regent Centre Interchange which will reach a key juncture in this period.
