In Pictures: The new look for Supertram

South Yorkshire Supertram is now starting to get a new look following the ending of 27 years of Stagecoach operation on 22nd March 2024. Whilst all trams still retain the same Stagecoach livery with the old logo (although all mentions of Stagecoach have been removed), a brand new logo and branding is starting to be seen on the stops.

In Pictures: A look inside the Workshop at Crich

As the season progresses at the Crich Tramway Village we have gradually been seeing more trams enter service with (at the time of writing) ten different trams having been used in service so far. Meanwhile, in the Workshop further trams are being prepared for service as they start to enter the busier part of the season with Bank Holidays and, hopefully, the promise of warmer and sunnier weather.

Planned service announced for London Trams strike

When planned strikes affecting London Trams services were suspended back in March it was said by Unite the Union that this was to allow meaningful talks to take place, but the proposed dates in May and July were kept in the diary in case this didn’t result in a satisfactory outcome. It would now appear that is what has happened at Transport for London have now confirmed details of services which will run on the trams between 5th and 9th May.

Route revealed for Blackpool Full System Tour

Sunday 5th May will see the first (of two planned) Full System Tour’s on the Blackpool Tramway with the tram going places where normal tours don’t go such as crossovers and into Starr Gate Depot. The exact route of this trip has now been announced along with a change of planned tram as it will now be Balloon 717 in charge instead of the previously announced Balloon 723.

New training tool boosts Metro level crossing safety awareness

Children and young people will be taught about the dangers of misusing level crossings on the Tyne and Wear Metro network after the introduction of a new and interactive training tool at the SafetyWorks teaching centre in Newcastle. The new level crossing training tool will recreates the red stop lights and warning tones to really show those attending just what the implications of not using it correctly are.

In Pictures: Driver familiarisation now underway to North Station

As we saw earlier in the week, the first test runs since 2022 onto the Blackpool Tramway extension to North Station took place on Tuesday 23rd April. Two trams were used on that first day and these were deemed a success which meant from the following day (and continuing for the rest of the week) driver familiarisation started.

Metrolink breaks a record on Marathon day

With the Manchester Marathon taking place on Sunday 14th April it was a day of personal bests – and we’re not just talking about the runners who took part! The route of the marathon took participants through parts of south Manchester and with Metrolink serving these areas it was well placed to carry the crowds – and that it did with 175,000 journeys recorded on the trams.

In Pictures: Birmingham Eastside extension works move to Moor Street Queensway

The construction of the West Midlands Metro Birmingham Eastside extension is now entering a new phase with work starting on Moor Street Queensway with road closures (and bus stop changes) being introduced from early April in preparation for the work. The work is due to be continuing until Autumn 2024.

Solent Sky Tram Event back for 2024

It was have been over 75 years since trams last ran in the Hampshire city of Southampton but they are far from forgotten and a dedicated group of volunteers have been keeping the history alive with a small collection of trams which once ran on the city’s tramway as well as one which plied its trade further afield. Having relocated to the Solent Sky Museum a few years ago they are now able to hold an annual event to show off their trams and this year that will be taking place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June.

New poetry now displayed on the Metro

Following on from last year’s annual National Poetry Day competition, Longbenton Metro station is now home to the winning poems for all to enjoy. 317 entries were received by Nexus on the theme of “Journey” and now four are now available to be seen by the public at the station.

In Pictures: 204 completes an e-on hattrick in Nottingham

e-on now have three incredibly similar adverts adorning trams in Nottingham after Incentro 204 swapped its previous all over ad for MHR Global for the incredibly familiar red vinyls for the power company. Of course, the company are no strangers to advertising on the network as under their current identity as well as their previous Powergen identity they have now had adverts on seven of the 15 Incentro trams!
