Park and Ride system introduced in Blackpool

The use of the Blackpool Tramway as a key part of the transport network on the Fylde Coast has been shown again this week with the introduction of a new Park and Ride system which enables users to park their cars on the fringes of the town centre and then travel into Blackpool by tram – and all for the reduced price of £5 for a family (plus 20p
for parking).

It has long been suggested that there was an ideal Park and Ride site in Blackpool at Starr Gate but unfortunately as part of the upgrade the new tram depot had to be built here
and so Blackpool Council and Blackpool Transport have come up with a different plan. Cars can park at the Gynn Car Park or on South Promenade on-street pay and display bays between Starr Gate and Manchester Square (although it begs the question if you’re parking near Manchester Square why you don’t just walk into the town!)

Car users just have to purchase a 20p all day parking ticket (after 1000 only) in one of the special festive Park and Ride pay and display machines and they will then get two tickets. One is placed in the car whilst the other is taken onto the tram. Then when they board
the tram at any stop between Starr Gate and Gynn Square they present this ticket and can purchase a family all day ticket (valid after 1000 only) for just £5. This ticket allows up to two adults and three children or one adult and four children unlimited travel on the tram for the remainder of the day.

The offer was launched on Thursday 6th December and will remain valid until Friday 4th January 2013.

A propos Blackpool, can anyone tell me authoritatively when the extension from the already-laid points in the Promenade to the North Station will be begun?

  2. GLYN R HILL says:

the Trams will only run up Talbot Road when the second fase of the Talbot Gateway
Prodject is built, the first fase of the Prodject as just started to be built, the second fase is the allteration of North station, with a new enterancen to the Station of High Street .
