In Pictures: Supertram 111 gets an Ikea makeover

With a new Ikea superstore due to open close to the Stagecoach Supertram stop at Carbook on 28th September one of the Siemens Duewag trams has received a complete makeover – both inside and out! The tram in question is 111 which has now lost its long term vinyls advertising East Midlands Trains for a new light blue wrap.

The Ikea tram was launched into service on Monday 4th September with a social media campaign encouraging anyone who sees the tram to tweet pictures of both the exterior and the interior. 111 is planned to run on the Yellow route during September and passengers getting the chance to “experience what it’s like to travel the IKEA way”!

From the outside the vinyl wrap is fairly standard with a light blue covering with limited vinyls added to the windows. But for anyone who steps onto the tram it will be like entering a different world with the entire interior having enjoyed an IKEA makeover! With seat coverings, flooring and even a new ceiling 111 is now unlike any other tram in the UK!

Of course this is not the first tram in the UK to carry adverts for IKEA with three London Tramlink vehicles (2532, 2539, 2553) running in yellow based adverts back in 2004.
