555 046 enters service on the Metro – just one to go!

No sooner had we run an article on another Stadler train entering service on the Tyne and Wear Metro than its out of date as the penultimate example carries its first passengers too! 555 046 followed quick on the heels of 555 023 with it being used for the first time on Monday 14th September 2026.

In Pictures: Edinburgh Trams disruption

Edinburgh Trams services were forced to terminate at Balfour Street for around three hours on Friday 18th September 2026 owing to a technical issue. A fault was discovered with the overhead line equipment on Ocean Drive during a routine inspection which led to the line being closed between Balfour Street and Newhaven.

Strike action to hit NET services during Goose Fair

Workers represented by the GMB Union will be going on strike over the busy Goose Fair period due to an ongoing dispute over this year’s pay deal. In the usual tit-for-tat press releases Nottingham Express Transit have said they have made a fair offer whilst the GMB Union say the operator are refusing to listen to their own workforce.

Metrolink passengers reminded to get ready for major works in October

The next major phase of engineering works on Manchester Metrolink – and the last for 2026 – are set to get underway from 19th October as contractors return to the Trafford Bar to Deansgate-Castlefield section to complete rail replacement works. Ahead of the work TfGM are urging passengers to get ready and plan in advance before attempting to travel.

Edinburgh Trams expansion next steps agreed

The City of Edinburgh Council’s Transport and Environment Committee have approved the Strategic Business Case (SBC) to build an extension of the tram network from Granton in the north to the Edinburgh Bioquarter in the south. As per the recommendations on the report which had been released ahead of the meeting of the Committee they have committed to prioritising the southern section to allow more work to be undertaken on a route to and from Granton.

In Pictures: Trams return to Fleetwood Ferry

Saturday 12th September saw the return of a tram service along the streets of Fleetwood to Fleetwood Ferry – the first time they have been able to run that far since 3rd June. A major fire in a building along Lord Street had meant it hadn’t been safe to do so but after it was shrouded in scaffolding the road was reopened and trams were given the go-ahead to run once again.

New control room opens on West Midlands Metro

A new state-of-the-art Operational Control Centre has opened at Wednesbury Depot on the West Midlands Metro network. This is the latest milestone in the expansion of the network and comes ahead of the next extension due to open as far as Dudley later this year.

11 runs the most at Seaton in August

The main summer operating season at the Seaton Tramway has now come to an end and as September starts the Yellow timetable will return on weekdays which will see the trams get an extra hour off every evening as it ends at 1600 instead of 1700. Next cohort of apprentices start at Nexus

Ten new apprentices have started their careers with Nexus as part of the ongoing apprenticeship scheme run by the company. They are all embarking on a four year Engineering Maintenance Technician apprenticeship having been chosen from over 500 applications.
