Changing seasons at Seaton – but same trams dominate the mileage!

We may be seeing a change in the season (and with it more unsettled weather conditions) but despite that the three newest trams (9, 10 and 11) were still the trams which travelled the most miles, although the enclosed saloons have started to see more use again.

Last chance for student discounted tram travel as NET reveal number of young people being fined for fare evasion

Students only have until 19th October to secure discounted tram travel for the new academic year on Nottingham Express Transit as the tram operator has revealed that over 4,5000 young people aged 16-21 were fined for travelling without a ticket in the last academic year.

Three more old Metro trains head for scrapping

Scrapping of the redundant 40+ year old original Metrocars is continuing at a pace with another threehaving been transported to J Denham Metals for their final journey since our last update. And as they have gone that way two Metro drivers have been for a visit to see the trains being scrapped.

In Pictures: LRTA visit to Crich as part of AGM Weekend

The Light Rail Transit Association held their Annual General Meeting in Sheffield on Saturday 4th October 2025 and made a weekend of it in the city and further afield. This included a trip to the Crich Tramway Village on Sunday 5th October 2025 where London County Council 1 was used for the benefit of LRTA members. Stuart Cooke with the below images.

Tickets go on sale for Blackpool Illumination Tours

Tickets are now available for the return of heritage trams to Blackpool Promenade with 14 nights of Illumination Tours taking place during the Lightpool Festival. Both Balloon 717 and the Illuminated Frigate have been cleared for use during this period, and there will be three tours each evening (although its not every day during Lightpool).

Boy taken to hospital after being hit by tram in Manchester

An 11-year-old boy was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries after he was hit by a tram on the Metrolink Manchester Airport. The incident happened at approximately 1540 on Wednesday 7th October at Crossacres tramstop.

Storm Amy causes problems for Blackpool

Storm Amy – the first named storm of the 2025/6 season – caused havoc for the Blackpool Tramway with its strong winds leading to service disruption over a couple of days, including the complete suspension of the tramway for a time.

In Pictures: TfL celebrate 25 years on the DLR

We saw a few weeks ago that as part of Transport for London’s 25th anniversary celebrations a half warp had been added to London Trams CR4000 2537. London Trams aren’t the only transport network in the city which has joined in the celebrations either with the DLR also outshopping one of their trains in the special livery.

Trams after dark at Crich again this November!

After the success of last year’s “just out of season” event at the Crich Tramway Village, the museum will once again be seeing trams running after dark on the first weekend after the normal end of the operating season. “Tramlight” will be taking place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th November 2025 as the museum turns magical as darkness falls.

Work continues on the trams at Beamish

Whilst 2025 may not have been a classic year for the trams at Beamish when you consider what is out and about in service that doesn’t mean its been a quiet year in the workshops with work continuing on preparing more trams for service. Currently there are just three trams available for service (Sunderland 16, Oporto 196 and Sheffield 264) with Blackpool 31 and Newcastle 114 out of service whilst the long-term work continues on Gateshead 10 and investigations continue to get Lisbon 730 into use for the first time since it became a permanent part of the Beamish tram fleet.

In Pictures: East Anglia Transport Museum celebrates the transport of London

Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September saw the East Anglia Transport Museum hold their latest special event. That weekend had traditionally been their Trolleybus Weekend but for 2025 they changed things a bit with it instead having a London theme, although the popular after dark running was still in place on the Saturday evening until 2100.

Another Metro closure for more improvement works

There will be a six day closure on the Tyne and Wear Metro in North Tyneside between Sunday 26th October and Friday 31st October as part of the continued investment in improving the infrastructure of the network. The closure will see no trains running between Benton and Wallsend.
