Two CR4000s depart London Trams

The weekend of 13th and 14th September saw the departure of not one but two of London Trams’ Bombardier built CR4000 trams for repairs. Both 2542 and 2548 have been out of service for some time and the work needed is severe enough to not be able to be completed in-house and so the work has been contracted out.

Temporary timetable as trams set to return to Wolverhampton St George’s from 29th September

Trams are set to return to Wolverhampton St George’s for the first time in just over two years from Monday 29th September with West Midlands Metro announcing plans for a temporary timetable to run for three weeks.

New artwork on the Tyne and Wear Metro

A children’s cancer charity are the latest to showcase their art to help mark Childhood Cancer Awareness month. The “Invisible Journeys” artwork is on display at Tynemouth Metro Station and is the collaborative work of two local Tyneside charities, Children’s Cancer North and North Tyneside Art Studio.

In Pictures: Blackpool 013 gets a new partial advert

When Blackpool Transport said that they had now taken advertising in-house they also teased that they had bene talking to other local attractions to advertise on the trams, and the first of these has now been revealed with Flexity2 013 receiving a partial advertising livery for Hole in the Wand Mini Golf.

Another Metrocar is saved

If you cast your mind back you may recall that it was reported that Nexus would be donating one of the redundant Metrocars to the Tyne and Wear Fire Service to help with training and it has now been confirmed that 4019 is the chosen unit, with it having being handed over on Tuesday 16th September 2025.

New Metro trains star on television!

One of the new trains currently entering service on the Tyne and Wear Metro has starred on national television with Michael Portillio taking a ride during the first episode of “Michael Portlillo’s 200 Years of the Railways”, which originally aired on Tuesday 16th September 2025.

Blackpool Tramway welcomes Baton of Hope

The Blackpool Tramway has recently helped to carry a potent symbol of hope that’s saving lives by raising awareness of the biggest killer of men and women under the age of 35. The “Baton of Hope” is part of a national campaign which urges people to stand up to suicide.

Greater integration for Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams moves a step closer

Tram and bus services in Edinburgh are set to enjoy better integration following the appointment of a Chief Executive who will have overall responsibility for both Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams. Sarah Boyd, who was Managing Director of Lothian Buses, will move into the new role to help deliver the desired outcome of City of Edinburgh Council to achieve a more integrated approach to the delivery of public transport in and across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

On Sunday 14th September the East Anglia Transport Museum welcomed visitors from the Cambridge and District Classic Car Club as they opened for another day of tram, trolleybus and railway activity. Great Orme Tramway Community Weekend to take place 28th and 29th September

Each year the Great Orme Tramway holds a Community Weekend and this year it will be taking place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September. During the weekend residents of Conwy county will be able to get half price tickets to enjoy everything the tramway has to offer, including the spectacular views offered as it makes its way up the Great Orme.

Blackpool and Sheffield see delays after storm damage

The first major storm of the new season saw tram services in both Blackpool and Sheffield disrupted as damage was caused to the infrastructure. For Blackpool this led to a partial suspension of the route for around a day whilst in Sheffield it was a much shorter disruption.

Another update from the Blackpool Tramway where more long-standing adverts on Flexity2 trams have been removed, or are in the process of being removed. This time the tram which has lost all of its adverts is 002 whilst 009 is also in the process of seeing its taken off.

Luas issue update after fire

Luas services are unlikely to be running to The Point until at least the end of November with repair works now underway on the bridge which was damaged by a non-tram related fire on Tuesday 19th August 2025.

In Pictures: London Trams 2537 receives a TfL celebration wrap

Earlier in the summer we reported that Transport for London were going to be wrapping various vehicles in their fleets to help celebrate their 25th anniversary, and this was to include trams and DLR vehicles as well as buses and trains. Since that announcement things had gone a little bit quiet but London Trams 2537 is now running in a half wrap as the trams contribution to the celebrations.
