It is the season for new fares to be introduced on tram networks it seems! Following on from the news that the cost of travelling on South Yorkshire Supertram will remain frozen or reduced, and that fares will see significant rises on the West Midlands Metro, comes news that Nottingham Express Transit will also see increases. The big difference on NET though is that the new fares will come into force as early as Monday 1st December 2025.
The majority of tram ticket prices will go up from this date, with the increase required to help continue to cover operating costs and ensure a reliable and safe service can be operated across the network.
Tim Hesketh, Chief Executive Officer at NET, said: “We understand that we are living in financially challenging times and making the decision to increase our fares is not something we consider lightly. Our team has worked to ensure that these updated prices remain below the current rate of inflation and, in comparison, are 2% less than the recent price increases seen across the heavy rail sector.
“It’s important for us to react to the current economic situation, while ensuring that Nottingham’s tram network remains good value for money. The trams are a critical piece of infrastructure here and these fare adjustments reflect the ongoing need to balance affordability with ensuring we can manage, maintain and continue to improve the network that keeps so many people moving.”
NET continue to incentivise passengers to use contactless payment methods with it being cheaper to do this than buying a ticket either at a ticket machine or on the NETGO! app.
Single ticket will be increasing by 10p, meaning when purchased using the contactless validators located on each platform it will now be £3.50. The same ticket on the NETGO! app or from a ticket machine will be £3.60.
Adult tickets see similar price increase, although go up by 15p, with the cost when using a contactless payment method on the platforms going up to £5.65, whilst a ticket bought from the ticket machine or on the app will now be £5.80.
Other changes include a £1 rise on Adult Weekly tickets, whilst the Student and Under 22 Day and Single tickets increase by 20p with the Weekly ticket up by £1.
On the more positive side the Short Hop ticket fares will remain at £1.50 for contactless payments and £2 when purchased on a ticket machine. These were revised in July 2025 and so haven’t been considered for an increase this time.
