New Metrolink stop by 2031?

Passengers could be getting off at a new Metrolink stop by 2031 if plans by Manchester City Council go-ahead as planned. A stop at Sandhills is one of three new stops which was given the go-ahead earlier this year as part of major investment in transport in Greater Manchester.

Sandhills tramstop would be located between Victoria and Queens Road. It would be part of a £4 billion Victoria North regeneration plan which could see almost 20,000 homes built along with a new school, medical centre, and shops.

Although the plans have been agreed in principle, there is no confirmed funding for the construction of the stop but officials in Manchester are hopeful it could open in 2030 or 2031.

There are currently 99 stops open on the Metrolink network, so we are anxiously waiting to see what may be the 100th open stop! Two other stops are in the planning stages at Elton Reservoir, Bury and Cop Road, Oldham.
