Edinburgh Trams have announced that they will be offering free travel to veterans and serving members of the army, navy and air force over the Remembrance Weekend as the city remembers the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.

More trams to run at peak periods on West Midlands Metro

With more passengers returning to travel on the West Midlands Metro an enhanced timetabled will be introduced from Monday 6th November seeing additional trams running at busy periods. This will include three additional trams added to the usual peak service meaning services will be running every 5-10 minutes both in the morning and late afternoon/early evening.

Heaton Park Tramway announce post Christmas running

There will be a rare chance to enjoy a tram ride through Heaton Park in the post-Christmas period as the tramway will be running on Wednesday 27th December – and as an added attraction there will be a Vintage Fair taking place in the tram depot, operated by So Retro – Vintage Fair.

UK based Douglas Horse Trams on the move

In May 2021 two trams from the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway were transported across the Irish Sea to the Wirral Heritage Tramway and Museum having been acquired from outside storage at Jurby Transport Museum. Now two and a half years later and numbers 11 and 47 have been on the move again with their departure from the Taylor Street Museum in Birkenhead for further storage at Hooton Park in Elllesmere Port.

Stand up comedy on a tram!

Nottingham’s Comedy Festival will be taking place between 3rd and 11th November, the fifteenth edition of the event which is set to be the biggest and best yet with 120 comedians performing at over 100 venues across the city. And for the first time that will include a tram as the 1205 service from Toton Lane to Hucknall on Saturday 4th November will include stand-up comedy performances from five comedians who will be appearing during the festival.

In Pictures: 37 heads to Worksop

Thursday 2nd November saw yet another West Midlands Metro tram on the road as 37 – the last of the Urbos3 trams to be built – was transported from Wednesbury Depot to Worksop for storage whilst building works continue at the depot.

DLR to be hit by strike action

It is expected that there will be no services on the Docklands Light Railway during a 48 hour strike which has been called by the RMT on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th November. The strike comes over a pay dispute with RMT members rejecting a below inflation pay offer.

In Pictures: Update from Blackpool North Railway Station extension

Although we aren’t expecting any real progress on trams returning to Blackpool North Railway Station on the Blackpool Tramway until at least next spring, there is still work ongoing around the new tram terminus. As well as the hotel, contractors are continuing to work on pedestrian access from the railway station and that’s where our latest photo from the scene comes from.

The MER in winter

The Manx Electric Railway closes once the main season is over at the end of October?! Wrong! Although the main operating season did come to an end on Sunday 29th October and there are no more timetabled services until the 2024 season starts in March there are limited opportunities to see trams out on the line with festive events taking place at both Dhoon Glen and Ramsey.
