In Pictures: Tramlink 2556 receives name

London Tramlink 2556 has received a name to commemorate the life of the late John Evans. The naming took place on Thursday 26th October and sees a nameplate carried at the A end only.

John Evans was a Revenue Protection Inspector at Tram Operations who passed away suddenly from Covid-19 during the first lockdown in 2020.

The simple nameplate – “JOHN EVANS 1956-2020” – is affixed to only the A end of 2556 (one of the Variobahn trams) and is located just behind the side fleet number on the tram.

There are now three Tramlink trams named, with 2535 having been named in 2007 “STEPHEN PARASCANDOLO 1980-2007” in commemoration of the webmaster of the Unofficial Croydon Tramlink website who died in a car accident. More recently 2554 has been named Stewart Grainger after a TfL engineer who died when knocked off his bike in a hit and run incident after working at Therapia Lane in May 2022.

2556 stands at Wimbledon ahead of departure for Beckenham Junction. The nameplate can be seen just behind the side fleet number.
