The MER in winter

The Manx Electric Railway closes once the main season is over at the end of October?! Wrong! Although the main operating season did come to an end on Sunday 29th October and there are no more timetabled services until the 2024 season starts in March there are limited opportunities to see trams out on the line with festive events taking place at both Dhoon Glen and Ramsey.

The MER will be running services to the Little Festive Shed’anigans at Dhoon Glen on four Saturdays and three Sundays during December whilst on Saturdays 9th and 16th December there will be a tram running to Ramsey for the Festive Fyn & Filbey’s Line.

In order to join these trams you need to book special tickets and the events at the Little Shed (located by the MER stop at Dhoon Glen) have been so popular they have already sold out within a few weeks of going on sale! But there is still the chance to be added to a waiting list in case there is any availability. Head to https://www.theshed.im/events/ to register your interest.

Despite the fact they have sold out if you’re in the area you may be interested to know just when you may see a tram in operation with the service running between Laxey and Dhoon Glen only. The event takes place on Saturday 2nd, Sunday 3rd, Saturday 9th, Sunday 10th, Saturday 16th, Sunday 17th and Saturday 23rd December with trams departing Laxey at 1500, 1545, 1630, 1715, 1800 and 1845 on each day.

The other reason for trams running on the MER during December will be a dining experience at The Fyn Bar in Ramsey with the cost of this including a return tram trip from Derby Castle. Costing £65 per person this gives you the cost of travel, a Fyn welcome drink, a 3 course meal and live music. Its available on both Saturday 9th and Saturday 16th December with booking available at https://iomrailways.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/873652402
