Loki’s Big Adventure at Crich Tramway Village

This is probably the sort of story which would have been the “And Finally” item on the News at Ten in the past, a lost dog was found at the Crich Tramway Village and was subsequently reunited with its grateful owners.

Loki, a 7 year old Jack Russell cross Bichon Frise, was found at Glory Mine by volunteer tram crew without a collar and lead. Paul Hobson, tram conductor, used his tie to secure the dog and took him back on the tram to the main museum site.

With no contact details and the owners not in sight, staff at the Museum set about trying to identify the dog, posted news on social media and contacted local vets to see if it could be scanned for identification. Whilst this was happening Loki was treated to some beef from Rita’s Tearooms and plenty of fuss from the staff.

Whilst this was happening owners of Loki, Martin Gration and Sophie Cuthbertson along with Sophie’s parents, Susan and Andrew, were searching for the dog. Martin has recently become warden of The Regimental Memorial, Crich and Sophie runs the tearoom there, located around 20 minutes walk from Glory Mine. Andrew decided to try Crich Tramway Village to see if they had found Loki and so reunions could be made with Loki delighted to find its owners once more.

Martin said: “Loki is new to his surroundings and has become an expert at escaping and exploring.”

Sophie added: “We were all trying to find him, so we were grateful to Crich Tramway Village staff and volunteers for looking after him during his absence. When we take him for a walk, he keeps pulling towards Crich Tramway Village, so he obviously enjoyed his time there and wants to return.”

Loki now wears a harness with contact details so he can be returned quickly if he decides to go on another solo adventure.

This is not the first time a lost dog has appeared at Crich. A small brown dog was found on site many years ago and eventually returned to it’s owners in Crich village.

And don’t even ask about the mountain goat, an escapee from Riber Castle, that spent a few weeks living on the cliff face below Crich Stand!

    Another good day for Crich.

Loki being the Norse trickster god, is finally collared.
