Free travel for armed forces in Edinburgh for Remembrance weekend

Edinburgh Trams have announced that they will be offering free travel to veterans and serving members of the army, navy and air force over the Remembrance Weekend as the city remembers the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.

The offer will be available on both Saturday 11th (the anniversary of the signing of the armistice) and Sunday 12th November (Remembrance Sunday) to anyone who is wearing their uniform or is able to show their military ID.

As a further mark of respect trams on the network will be displaying poppies in tram windows in lead up to the weekend whilst tram will be brought safely to a stop at 1100 on both days to observe two minutes silence.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director and a former serviceman, said: “Offering free travel to members of the armed services, past and present, is the least we can do to show our gratitude to them for all they have done to keep our country safe. Many members of the Edinburgh Trams team are from military backgrounds, and we’re passionate about showing our gratitude to all those who have served their country with such commitment and bravery.”
