In Pictures: A busy time for trams at Little Bispham

A road accident on the road next to the tramstop (not involving the tramway) in the centre of Cleveleys on 8th December 2025 saw services on the Blackpool Tramway severely impacted. The police closed off the whole area, including the tramway, which meant that Blackpool Transport had to operate a revised service with no trams able to travel any further north than Little Bispham.

During the incident, this meant that trams used Little Bispham loop (a relatively rare occurrence for the Flexity2 trams in 2025) to turn and go back south – at one stage this saw three trams on the loop at the same time. At least we know now the answer to the question of how many Flexity2s can you fit on the loop (if anyone has ever asked that!).

In other news from Blackpool, new safety signs have also been installed around the tramway. These are of a different design to the “TWO LINES = STOP” campaign and have been seen around Broadwater. They tell you to “STAY SAFE AROUND TRAMS”, “KEEP TO CROSSING POINTS”, and “STAY OFF THE TRACKS”.

013 is on Little Bispham loop here as its journey to Fleetwood has been curtailed. North Station will be its next destination when it returns south.

013 is soon joined by 015 on the loop making it a pretty rare scene of two trams on the loop.

If two trams is rare enough, how about three! 018 at the head of the loop with 013 at the back as they all wait for the time that they can return south again.

And at Broadwater we see some of the new safety signage which has recently been installed. (All Photographs by Steven Hughes, 8th December 2025)
