Not previously noted on these pages is the return to service of West Midlands Metro 54. The tram was back in service during June and has remained active since as one of the trams which is regularly used in service along the line between Edgbaston Village and Wolverhampton Railway Station.

Crich gear up for a summer of special events

Its August, it’s the school summer holidays and that means that families are looking for ways to entertain the children during the long six week break. In Pictures: Metrolink 3075 gets a new advert

Manchester Metrolink 3075 has received its eighth advert following the application of new vinyls for Cano Water. The new advert was added to the tram in early August with it first being noted in use on 6th August 2024.

SYMCA celebrate four months of public control

The South Yorkshire Supertram network has been back under public control for over four months and during that time a number of improvements have been introduced. To mark the anniversary, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority are celebrating the improvements with the network now being run in the interests of South Yorkshire’s communities and improvement plans and investment is now being delivered.

Tests start on Saltburn Cliff Tramway

Trams have started to run again on the Saltburn Cliff Tramway, although for now this is just testing with no date announced for the public reopening of the funicular which connects the town to the Pier and Promenade.

In Pictures: West Midlands Metro 29 off to Worksop

Service details announced for last phase of summer Supertram improvement works

The summer of improvement works on South Yorkshire Supertram will continue throughout August with service details now announced as the work moves on to Middlewood Road. This will affect trams running to Middlewood with the Yellow route instead being diverted to Malin Bridge, giving the short section between Hillsborough and Malin Bridge double the trams.

Business case to be developed for DLR Thamesmead extension

Transport for London have announced that they will be moving to the next stage of their plans to extend the Docklands Light Railway to Thamesmead after a recent consultation saw support for the line. They will now be developing a business case and further plans for the extension.

Minor derailment on the Volk’s Electric Railway

There was a minor derailment on the Volk’s Electric Railway on Tuesday 30th July. Car 4 came off the rails with initial reports suggesting that the cause was at least in part caused by the heat being experienced on the south coast.

LRSSB appoint new researcher

In Pictures: Unusual destinations on Metrolink

As we have reported on these pages in recent weeks, revised services have been operating across the Manchester Metrolink network recently. Firstly, came the land movement at Derker which meant trams couldn’t go beyond Oldham Mumps and then a couple of weeks later and it was scheduled rail replacement works in Manchester City Centre which led to revised routings for services.
