In Pictures: Supertram move the crowds to Tramlines

The South Yorkshire Supertram came into its own again over the weekend of Friday 26th to Sunday 28th July with Tramlines taking place once at Hillsborough Park. This is a music festival and is a very popular event with those attending recommended to travel by tram, leading to both additional services as well as a revised timetable once it ends each evening.

In Pictures: Tram stops short of North Station

Aside from the controversial timetable and cancellations owing to staff shortages, the introduction of the Blackpool Tramway extension to North Station has been relatively quiet with no big incidents reported. Tuesday 30th July did see a minor incident thought which prevented a tram from reaching the island platform terminus.

Metro ticket holders to get discounts on top attractions in Birmingham

West Midlands Metro have announced another partnership which will enable tram ticket holders to enjoy discounts at top attractions in the city. They have teamed up with Merlin Entertainments Ltd to provide up to 25% off when visiting National SeaLife Centre and Legoland Discovery Centre.

In Pictures: Busy day at Ingliston on Edinburgh Trams

As is so often the case when there are big events at Murrayfield Stadium, Saturday 20th July 2024 was a busy day for the Edinburgh Trams system. This time it was down to a big pre-season friendly football match between Glasgow Rangers and Manchester United and as always the best way for the thousands of fans heading that way to get there was on the trams. These photos come from Ingliston Park and Ride where many parked their cars before catching the tram. Roy Calderwood is the photographer.

New Metro train takes centre stage at children’s play village

We may still be waiting for the first of the new trains to enter on the Tyne and Wear Metro but children in the region will be able to get a taste of what to expect with a scale model of one taking centrepiece for a new pop-up play village at Old Eldon Square in the centre of Newcastle.

In Pictures: Summer trackwork continues in Manchester City Centre

Essential work is underway on Manchester Metrolink with rail replacement taking place in the city centre. The latest phase of work started on Wednesday 24th July and will see almost a month of service changes with the completion date set as Monday 19th August. The work is on Market Street and at Shudehill and means that no trams are able to travel via 1CC (the original city crossing) to allow the safe completion of the work.

Nottingham Express Transit have announced an ongoing partnership with Nottingham Trent University (NTU) which will provide support for students at the university in their future careers. Over the last academic year NET have worked with three university departments to set a series of live briefs.

In Pictures: Trackwork underway on Supertram

The first (of three) phase of summer rail replacement work (improvement works as the publicity tells us) on the South Yorkshire Supertram network got underway on Saturday 20th July. This part of the works is seeing track replaced on White Lane, Crystal Peaks and Waterthorpe and has also led to a revised service in operation.

In Pictures: Newcastle 102 returns to service!

Newcastle 102 has carried its first normal passengers since 2000 with it entering service for the first time since overhaul at the Crich Tramway Village on Saturday 27th July 2024. It was a low key return to service – and sees it still running with limited capacity – with no formal ceremony or pre-publicity but it marks a significant return to action for the tram.
