LRSSB appoint new researcher

The Light Rail Safety and Standards Board have appointed a new research coordinator as they continue to boost efforts to drive innovation across the tram and light rail sector. The LRSSB’s remit is to enhance all aspects of light rail safety and its hoped that this latest appointment will add to their recent successes.

Matthew Wright has been appointed into the role. He has a broad experience of the transport industry, most recently as Reliability, Engineering and Competence Manager at Sheffield Station. There he was responsible for leading fleet reliability improvements as well as managing the engineering Competence Management System (CMS).

Craig O’Brien, Head of Engineering Safety and Innovation at the LRSSB said: “A valued addition to our team, Matt brings a wealth of skills and knowledge to this new role. In addition to supporting the sector in meeting statutory requirements for standards adoption, he will also be helping the LRSSB develop research strategies exploring new technologies and innovative safety processes to further drive down the risk of accidents and other serious incidents.”

Matthew has recently completed a BA (Hons) in Management Practice and achieved Chartered status with the Chartered Management Institute.

Speaking about his appointment he said: “I’m really looking forward to a new challenge at an exciting time for the sector. From AI to obstacle avoidance systems, a host of new technologies have the potential to revolutionise the way networks reduce risks, and we aim to ensure light rail in the UK remains a global leader in tramway safety and innovation.”
