In Pictures: 54 back into service on West Midlands Metro

Not previously noted on these pages is the return to service of West Midlands Metro 54. The tram was back in service during June and has remained active since as one of the trams which is regularly used in service along the line between Edgbaston Village and Wolverhampton Railway Station.

54 had been involved in a collision with a car in Wolverhampton on 27th May 2024 and was returned to the depot for assessment and repairs. The damage was not that severe and it was repaired within a month, being back in service by 18th June 2024.

Another tram which suffered damage in a collision, 46, remains out of service although a start has been made on repairs to bring this tram back into service as well.

Its not hard to work out which end suffered the damage and required repairs as 54 was back in service sans fleet numbers where the work had taken place. This is the tram at Edgbaston Village. (Photograph by Andy Walters, 5th August 2024)

Does anyone have any idea when the branch to Wolverhampton St George’s will be used by trams again? I wonder if it has been closed permanently in favour of the new branch to the station?

  2. Andy walters says:

Most likely to open when the new learning
center quarter is open ,it is right next to
    st George’s tram stop .

St George’s is already fitted with a new ticket machine so they haven’t giving up on it .
