NET donate to Pythian Club

When it was announced there was to be a crackdown on enforcement of parking rules at Park and Ride sites across the Nottingham Express Transit network it was mentioned that a percentage of the fines paid would go to charity and now, in the lead up to Christmas, it has been confirmed that the Pythian Club has been the recipient of a donation. NET and the Pythian Club have a long standing history of collaborating and this cash injection will boost a project refurbishing bicycles which can be used by young people to get to college or work.

Glasgow 585 on the move – but not far!

A recently released video on the National Railway Museum YouTube channel has shown that Glasgow 585 – the only tram which remains part of the Science Museum Group collection of objects – was moved this summer between storage locations at Wroughton. This is the Wiltshire storage facility of the Science Museum Group (which features many large and small objects including several buses) which is due to offer public tours, school and research visits from 2024.

Greater Manchester’s Travelsafe partnership gets involved in new pre Christmas operation

Greater Manchester Police, Transport for Greater Manchester and other Travelsafe partners have recently conducted an operation in the pre-Christmas rush to help keep passengers safe on the public transport network. Operation AVRO took place on 14th December saw high visibility deployments in Manchester City Centre and near Manchester Airport with 28 arrests made along with 29 stop searches undertaken.

In Pictures: Llandudno & Colwyn Bay Electric Railway 7 joins in the Christmas Parade

Llandudno & Colwyn Bay Electric Railway 7 made another appearance in 2023 as part of the Llandudno Christmas Parade which took place on Saturday 2nd December. The tram – on the back of the Llandudno & Colwyn Bay Tramway Society’s trusted Matador lorry – was at the back of the Parade and once again provided a highlight for those watching.

Full Edinburgh Trams service resumes to Newhaven

After four weeks with no trams able to run to the Newhaven terminus on the Edinburgh Trams network they have resumed. The necessary repair works and associated testing were completed on Friday 22nd December allowing the full service to run again all the way between the Airport and Newhaven.

In Pictures: 634 on display as EATM Ride the Lights one more time

The last trams have run for another year (but the season isn’t quite over as the museum opens on 1st January 2024) at the East Anglia Transport Museum with the third and final Ride the Lights weekend having come to an end. As well as the tram service operating alongside trolleybuses and the East Suffolk Light Railway, recent arrival Blackpool Brush 634 was displayed outside of the depot with visitors able to inspect the stunning restored interior of the tram. Bryan Grint was on hand to capture images of 634 and a few other sights at the museum on 17th December 2023.

West Midlands Metro fares to increase from 1st January 2024

The price of travel on the West Midlands Metro is set to rise from 1st January 2024 as the company introduce their first fares increase since 2022. Fares will be increasing by an average of 5% which remains below the rate of inflation and will allow a continued investment in the service with the promise of a higher frequency timetable to come.

Overall responsibility of NET could move from Nottingham City Council

As part of the devolution deal which would see a new East Midlands Mayor appointed (and the setting up of a Combined Authority similar to elsewhere in the country), overall responsibility of Nottingham Express Transit could move from Nottingham City Council it has been reported. However, any move would not be immediate and would likely not take place until at least 2034 when the current PFI contract expires.
