Christmas and New Year services 2023/24

This is your one stop guide to see what services are due to operate on tramway and light rail systems over the festive period this year. There may be no services running on Christmas Day but if you miss your trams that much you will be able to find somewhere to go at some point – including for the first time in many, many years a limited service on the Blackpool Tramway on both Boxing Day and New Years Day!

Blackpool Tramway

Sunday 24th December: Normal timetable until final trams at 1900 from Starr Gate

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: Special service with a 30 minute frequency Starr Gate to Thornton Gate between 0900 and 1700

Wednesday 27th December to Saturday 30th December: Saturday timetable

Sunday 31st December: Normal timetable until final trams at 1900 from Starr Gate

Monday 1st January 2024: Special service with a 30 minute frequency Starr Gate to Thornton Gate between 0900 and 1700

Tuesday 2nd January to Friday 5th January 2024: Saturday timetable

Docklands Light Railway

Sunday 24th December: Services finish 2230. There is no service between Canary Wharf and Westferry/Poplar

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: First trains will run from 0830 with a normal weekday service in operation. No service between Canary Wharf and Westferry/Poplar.

Wednesday 27th, Thursday 28th, Friday 29th, Saturday 30th December: Saturday service with no service between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/Canary Wharf

Sunday 31st December: Normal daytime service. There will be a special all-night service on all routes with trains every 15 minutes.

Monday 1st January 2024: Saturday service

Edinburgh Trams

Sunday 24th December: Normal service with trams from every 7 minutes

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December to Friday 29th December: Normal service with trams from every 7 minutes

Saturday 30th December: Normal service until 1900. The network will then run a split service: Edinburgh Airport-West End and Picardy Place-Newhaven every 10 minutes.

Sunday 31st December: Split service will run Edinburgh Airport-West End and Picardy Place-Newhaven from every 10 minutes all day. After midnight free trams will run (0000-0200 every 10 minutes, 0200-normal start of service every 20 minutes)

Monday 1st January 2024: Split service (Edinburgh Airport-West End and Picardy Place-Newhaven) will run until 1000. Then a full service runs from every 7 minutes.

London Tramlink

Sunday 24th December: Normal service

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: Sunday service

Wednesday 27th, Thursday 28th, Friday 29th & Saturday 30th December: Saturday service

Sunday 31st December: Sunday service during the day. A special all night service runs between Wimbledon and Beckenham Junction/New Addington.

Monday 1st January 2024: Sunday service

Luas

Sunday 24th December: Services will end at 2000

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: Sunday frequency from 0900

Wednesday 27th to Saturday 30th December: Saturday service

Sunday 31st December: Sunday service plus Night Luas (hourly services between 0100 and 0300 on Red and Green lines)

Monday 1st January 2024: Sunday service

Manchester Metrolink

Sunday 24th December: 15 minute frequency across the network. Services start at 0700 but will finish earlier with last trams leaving from the city centre between 2000 and 2100.

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: 15 minute frequency across the network. Services start at 0700 and will end at midnight. Additional trams between Altrincham and Crumpsall for the Manchester United v Aston Villa match. Access to Piccadilly Metrolink stop is only via Fairfield Street.

Wednesday 27th & Thursday 28th December: Services start at 0600 and end at midnight with a 15 minute frequency

Friday 29th December: Service start at 0600 and end at 0100. 15 minute frequency until midnight when trams run every 30 minutes.

Saturday 30th December: Services start at 0600 and end at 0100. 15 minute frequency until midnight when trams run every 30 minutes. Additional trams will run Etihad Campus-Deansgate-Castlefield for Manchester City v Sheffield United match.

Sunday 31st December: Services start at 0700 running on a 15 minute frequency. Last trams will depart Manchester City Centre stops at around 0100. Services after midnight will operate every 30 minutes. Exchange Square stop will be closed from 1900 until end of service with all cross city trams going via Market Street and Shudehill.

Monday 1st January 2024: Services start at 0700 running on a 15 minute frequency until 0000.

Nottingham Express Transit

Sunday 24th December: Normal service

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: Sunday service

Wednesday 28th to Saturday 30th December: Normal service

Sunday 31st December: Sunday service

Monday 1st January 2024: Sunday service

Stagecoach Supertram

Sunday 24th December: Sunday timetable with early finish. Last trams from city centre at 1800-1830 with last trams from outer termini around 1830-1900.

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: Special service from 0800-2100. Yellow route runs Meadowhall to Middlewood every 20 minutes and Festive Blue runs Meadowhall to Halfway every 20 minutes. No Purple route or Tram-Train service will operate and no trams will run to Malin Bridge.

Wednesday 27th to Saturday 30th December: Saturday service.

Sunday 31st December: Sunday timetable with early finish. Last trams from city centre at 1800-1830 with last trams from outer termini around 1830-1900.

Monday 1st January 2024: Special service from 0900-1900. Yellow route will run Meadowhall-Middlewood every 30 minutes, Tram-Train will run Rotherham Parkgate-Cathedral every 30 minutes and Blue route will run Halfway-Cathedral every 30 minutes. No Purple route service and no trams to Malin Bridge. Trams will have stopped running by the time the re-timed Sheffield Wednesday match finishes.

Tyne and Wear Metro

Sunday 24th December: Sunday service until 1800 then hourly service on each line (30 minutes between Pelaw and South Gosforth) until end of service

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: Revised Saturday service from 0800-2000. Sunderland station is only open 0800-1930.

Wednesday 27th to Friday 29th December: Normal weekday timetable

Saturday 30th December: Saturday service

Sunday 31st December: Sunday service until 2100 then 30 minute service (15 minutes between Pelaw and South Gosforth) until end of service

Monday 1st January 2024: No service

West Midlands Metro

Sunday 24th December: Sunday service

Monday 25th December: No service

Tuesday 26th December: Sunday service

Wednesday 27th to Saturday 30th December: Normal service

East Anglian Transport Museum

Open on Monday 1st January 2024 between 1200 and 1630

Heaton Park Tramway

Open for a Vintage Fair on Wednesday 27th December including tram rides between 1200 and 1600.

Seaton Tramway

Wednesday 27th December 2023 to Monday 1st January 2024: Trams running every 20 minutes from Seaton to Colyton between 1000 and 1600
