In Pictures: Pleasure Beach return to advertising on Blackpool’s trams

Over the years Blackpool Pleasure Beach have been a regular advertiser on the Blackpool Tramway, hardly a surprise considering the proximity between the two and with a tramstop even bearing the name of Pleasure Beach. However, they have been a notable absentee from the modern tramway with no full advertising livery having been carried by the Flexity2 trams. We think you know where we’re going with this as that has now changed with 012 the recipient of an all new full vinyl wrap for the attraction.

Wirral Bus & Tram Show to be retitled for 2023 with no trams able to run

Traditionally the first Sunday of October sees the Wirral Bus & Tram Show take place around the Wirral Heritage Tramway with trams running alongside a selection of heritage buses, many from the collection housed at the Wirral Transport Museum at Transport Museum. However, it has been confirmed that the show in its usual format will not be able to take place in 2023 because of works needed at the Museum as well as on the tramway. All is not lost for transport enthusiasts though as its been announced that an alternative event will be taking place on Sunday 1st October to be titled the Wirral Transport Show.

Metrolink 3023 celebrates pride

Each year in the lead up to Manchester Pride (25th-28th August) Metrolink celebrate the event by putting at least one on their trams in a special livery. This has seen the spots on the standard livery changed to rainbow colours as well as other variations but for 2023 its an even bolder attempt with a full wrap (aside from the ends of the tram) having been applied to 3023.

Nexus receive Autism Friendly Award

Nexus have proudly announced that they have become the first public transport provider in the region to achieve the Autism Friendly Award. Given by the National Autistic Society, the award is designed to support organisations to provide an autism friendly environment and inclusive customer service.

In Pictures: Rosettes on Edinburgh Trams

Earlier this year we reported that Edinburgh Trams had won the Public Transport Operator of the Year category at the Scottish Transport Awards. Not content with taking home this award and mentioning it with a press release, they have started to add special rosettes to their tram fleet to shout it from the rooftops!

Piper’s Row resurfacing work to take place

The wait may still be going on for the start of trams to Wolverhampton Railway Station but every so often we get a little snippet of information which starts to make you think that services may not be that far away (unfortunately, often followed by something which tells you its still some way off). The latest positive development is the forthcoming closure of Piper’s Row for resurfacing work (something which does seem to have happened on several occasions already).

New campaign against anti-social behaviour on Metro launched

A new system allowing passengers to quickly and discreetly send a text message to report anti-social behaviour has been revealed as one of the cornerstones of a new campaign aiming to reduce the blight on the Tyne and Wear Metro. The campaign has been titled not big, not clever, not here and is in response to feedback who want to see more done to improve security on the network.

In Pictures: Construction work in Dudley for West Midlands Metro extension

The Wednesbury to Dudley section of the Brierley Hill West Midlands Metro extension is due to open in 2024 (exact date not announced but if they hit the target expect it to be pretty late in the year if previous experience is to be considered) and in preparation for this construction work is now well underway. A lot of the progress so far has been in Dudley and that’s where we head for this pictorial update of construction work.

Pigeons back on Elm Row as public realm works continue

The iconic Elm Row pigeons have “come home to roost” as work on completing public realm works on Leith Walk following the construction of the Trams to Newhaven extension start to come to an end. The bronze birds were removed back in 2006 ahead of the first period of tram construction  but they are now back in pride of place.

NET Engineering Works to affect services this August

Nottingham Express Transit is the latest tramway to announce plans for engineering works this summer with rail replacement set to take place around The Forest. This is the first time these tracks have been dealt with since the system opened in 2004 and will lead to the network running in two sections for the duration of the works.

More trams for repairs at Dudley confirmed

As we’ve seen in recent weeks there has been a changing of the trams in Dudley as repairs of the West Midlands Metro Urbos3s continues, but we hadn’t had confirmation of which trams were now there, until now! The two latest trams can be confirmed as 33 and 35.

As we saw last week a period of rail replacement work is now underway on Stagecoach Supertram with the Hillsborough area the focus of attention. Getting underway from Monday 24th July the works will be continuing until Sunday 6th August with four distinct phases taking place.
