Picture in Time: Snaefell Mountain Railway 3

Its back to “Picture in Time” and another photo taken on the Isle of Man with the Snaefell Mountain Railway the subject this week.

In 2016 Snaefell Mountain Railway 3 ran away from the Summit at Snaefell with no-one on board the vehicle. It made it all the way down to Bungalow where it left the tracks and the body was destroyed. The remains of the underframe were recovered and a replacement body and underframe ordered to rebuild the vehicle in the future. The incident brought to an end the original car 3’s history but hopefully it will have a new history to come.

In happier time during September 1990 we see 3 at the Summit with view across the valley on what was a relatively clear day.

  1. David says:

I like number 3 because it had a barometer on the bulkhead which registered different readings as the car ascended the mountain.
