Around the World in Trams: Turin 2848

Having finished a set of photos from Rome in 1964 last week, “Around the World in Trams” stays in Italy but moves to Turin and forward in the years to 2019.

Turin is located in the northwest of Italy in the Piedmonth region. It first welcomed trams in 1871 when a horse system started operation with this starting conversion to electric operation in 1893. The system runs on the 4ft 8 7/8 inches gauge and now totals 55 miles (88km) of route miles with 10 different lines in operation.

Built in 1960, 2848 is a GTT series 2800 class of tram. This was one of the first series of articulated trams which were rebuilt from 1930s bogies cars. Its one of 43 of this class and is one of five which was in this green livery used in the 1930s-1970s. We see the tram here in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.
