Big increase in penalty fares issues on NET

Nottingham Express Transit launched a zero tolerance campaign to crack down on fare evasion in December 2023 with concerns about the number of people who were travelling on the trams without a ticket. It has now been revealed that since that campaign started there has been a 45% increase month-on-month in Penalty Fare Notices issued.

3023 gets the beauty treatment in Manchester

The latest advertising livery on Manchester Metrolink has recently been applied to 3023 – a tram which had only lost its previous advert a few weeks ago and did run in service back in fleet livery for a small period. The tram has gone to the make-up counter as it is now advertising Maybelline.

West Midlands Metro earns safer Tram Stop Accreditation

If you’re travelling on the West Midlands Metro you will be pleased to know that 31 of the 33 stops on the network have now received Safer Tram Stop Accreditation. This prestigious recognition is handed by Secured by Design, an official Police security initiative dedicated to ensuring safety in light rail systems throughout the UK.

There are to be more line closures on the London Trams network over the next couple of months – including a lengthy, almost a month, closure between 29th March and 24th April. These latest closure come not long after no trams ran through central Croydon for a couple of weeks earlier this month.

Fare evasion down by a third on Metrolink

TfGM have claimed that fare evasion across the Manchester Metrolink has fallen by a third since the start of a new crackdown by KeolisAmeyMetrolink in partnership with the TravelSafe Partnership.

Saltburn Cliff Tramway won’t be ready to reopen by Easter

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have confirmed that the repairs required to the Saltburn Cliff Tramway after a fire in January will not be completed in time for the cliff tramway to open again at Easter as originally planned.

The Bee Network Committee has approved £21.4 million worth of funding to be invested into improving the Manchester Metrolink network. The cash – which comes from the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) – will help to ensure that the network continues to keep on delivering safe, reliable and accessible services for millions more people in the future.

In Pictures: Continued progress in Dudley

The West Midlands Metro network is set to be further expanded later this year (yes, we know there is still a lot of work to do and it seems unlikely based on past experience it will be this year but the official word remains late 2024) when the first phase of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill extension opens as far as Flood Street in Dudley. Passenger numbers up on Edinburgh Trams

In hardly surprising news (tram extension opens and more passengers travel on trams) Edinburgh Trams have announced record breaking passenger numbers on the system. Passenger numbers have more than doubled since the 3 mile extension to Newhaven opened in June 2023 but its not just good news following this opening as numbers had already started to go up before this date.

Full service resumes on Supertram

A full service returned to the Stagecoach Supertram network as from the start of service on Friday 23rd February. This came after completion of repairs to the broken rail at Manor Top which had been impacting services on both the Blue and Purple routes since 13th February 2024.
