Saltburn Cliff Tramway won’t be ready to reopen by Easter

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have confirmed that the repairs required to the Saltburn Cliff Tramway after a fire in January will not be completed in time for the cliff tramway to open again at Easter as originally planned.

The fire broke out in the station building (specifically the electrical plant room) on the Cliff Tramway on 15th January 2024 – only six days after services had finished operation for a pre-planned off season. Although local fire crews were quickly on the scene and brought the fire under control there was significant damage caused.

It has been revealed that the interior of the building was severely damaged and whilst work is underway to repair this – and the Council and committed to completing the repairs – it is not going to be completed in time for it to reopen as originally planned at Easter.

No date has been given for when repairs will be completed.
