Full service resumes on Supertram

A full service returned to the Stagecoach Supertram network as from the start of service on Friday 23rd February. This came after completion of repairs to the broken rail at Manor Top which had been impacting services on both the Blue and Purple routes since 13th February 2024.

Since the first reports of the broken rail the Purple route had been suspended in its entirety (Cathedral-Herdings Park) whilst the Blue route had only been running between Malin Bridge and Sheffield Station. No trams were running between Sheffield Station through to Halfway but a replacement bus servie (albeit not immediately) was put in place between Fitzalan Square in the city centre and Halfway alongside ticket acceptance on local bus routes.

After the initial investigation into the problem it was said that they were aiming to resume services from Friday 23rd February and that target was met as planned.

A different perspective to trams using the crossover at Sheffield Station. This is taken from onboard 101 and shows the way ahead for the tram after departure from the stop to get back onto the right track.

Later on and we’re on board 122 which pauses to allow 113 to depart from Sheffield Station on the way back to Malin Bridge. (Both Photographs by John Whittingham, 16th February 2024)
