2024 should see the introduction of the first of the new trains for the Tyne and Wear Metro but before then the service will continue to be maintained by the remaining Metrocars and we see a few of those in this latest “Out and About”.
On 3rd January 2024 this photo was taken at Pelaw and shows 4052 at the rear of a service running to South Hylton. Although there have been unit shortages leading to poor reliability on the network all service do continue to be operated with double units.
This is North Shields and this time we see 4089 again at the back of a double unit. The service is going to South Shields on this occasion. As the crow flies this would be just a short hop across the Tyne but the service actually goes via the North Tyneside coastal route, the city centre before finally heading out to South Shields.
