Metrolink strikes officially cancelled after agreement reached

The threat of strikes on Manchester Metrolink which would have seen major disruption to services over the final weekend before Christmas and on New Year’s Eve is over after members of Unite the Union agreed to a new deal aimed at fixing longstanding problems with fatigue amongst drivers.

Person dies on DLR tracks at Poplar

British Transport Police confirmed that a person died on the tracks at Poplar on the Docklands Light Railway. The tragic incident happened at approximately 0800 on 3rd December 2025 with confirmation later received that they had passed away.

In Pictures: A busy time for trams at Little Bispham

A road accident on the road next to the tramstop (not involving the tramway) in the centre of Cleveleys on 8th December 2025 saw services on the Blackpool Tramway severely impacted. The police closed off the whole area, including the tramway, which meant that Blackpool Transport had to operate a revised service with no trams able to travel any further north than Little Bispham.

In Pictures: EATM Ride the Lights again!

Once again in 2025, the East Anglia Transport Museum have been ending the year in style with the always popular “Ride the Lights” event taking place on weekends in December. This event sees trams, trolleybuses and the railway running after dark, and with it being almost Christmas there are also lots of festive lights in place to add to the spectacle and the atmosphere of an after dark ride! Bryan Grint has paid a visit to the museum and provide us with this selection of photos.

LRSSB run workshops on tramway risk modelling

The Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) have been undertaking a “national tour” to help networks drive further safety enhancements informed by a new safety risk model (SRM). A series of site visits by members of the LRSSB has enabled operators to review their individual SRMs using the latest incident data collected using the LRSSB’s Tramway Accident and Incident Reporting system (TAIR).

This isn’t the first time that in the lead up to Christmas that the trams in the Scottish capital have seen antlers stuck on them but it marks a return following their absence in more recent times. LRSSB name new Chair for Heads of Safety Group

The Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) have named Don McClurg as the new Chair of the Heads of Safety group. Don is the Head of Safety and Standards at Edinburgh Trams and replaces Andy Wallace, who has stepped down from the role following his move from Tram Operations Limited.
