A vacant shop unit at West Jesmond Metro station has now been filled with Awesome Frank’s opening, providing a vibrant family-friendly deli serving mouthwatering artisan sandwiches, deli goods and branded flour.
The new shop is owned by Alex Walker, who is co-founder of the hugely successful Scream for Pizza chain.
She said: “It’s amazing to have my latest business based at a Metro station, which is at the heart of the community and brings with it such excellent customer footfall, in what is a vibrant and busy suburb of Newcastle.
“I jumped at the opportunity to take over this space and bring my vision for Awesome Franks into reality. I was really driven to create a space that serves the whole of the West Jesmond community, adding positively to what is already an exceptional hospitality scene.”
Jane Harding, Commercial Income Manager at Nexus, said: “We’re delighted to have secured fresh use for the vacant retail unit at West Jesmond Metro station. Awesome Franks has breathed new life into the Metro station, offering a vibrant and delicious food outlet in a prime location on Metro.
“Entrepreneur Alex Walker and her team have done fantastic job of transforming the former wine merchants into a really lovely venue, with a sandwich shop and delicatessen. The décor is cool and the aesthetic is really eye catching. It looks fantastic.
“It’s great to be working with Alex, building on the amazing success she has already enjoyed with Scream for Pizza over in Sandyford and on the Quayside.
“A huge amount of work went into this project to bring it to fruition, not least from Alex herself, our own team, and our commercial letting partner BNP Paribas. We wish Alex every success with the business.”
