In Pictures: Reindeers return to Edinburgh!

Christmas is coming – and some of the trams in Edinburgh have grown antlers! This isn’t the first time that in the lead up to Christmas that the trams in the Scottish capital have seen antlers stuck on them but it marks a return following their absence in more recent times. As well as the vinyl antlers some trams have also received reindeer names.

Not all trams have received the antlers and names (some of the advertising liveries don’t lend themselves particularly well to having antlers/names added!) but at least 251, 254, 267 and 277 have been noted as wearing these additions so far.

All of Santa’s famous reindeers are featured on the trams – from Dasher and Dancer to Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and the most famous one of all, Rudolph!

As part of Edinburgh Trams’ reindeer campaign they are also encouraging people to share photos of the reindeer inspired trams on social media!

254 has had antlers added either side of the cab window with them partially covering some of the wording on its Uniqlo advert. Its not known if this tram has also received a reindeer name. 267 – which has a wrap but this leaves the ends of the tram free – is another tram to have received the antlers as we see here. Its also got the name “Prancer” as we see on the nearside behind the side cab window. The tram arrives at Haymarket on the way to the Airport. (Photograph by Roy Calderwood, 12th December 2025)

277 has become Cupid for the festive season! Its pictured here pulling away from Picardy Place with a service to the Airport as it crosses the Broughton Street junction with the Playhouse Theatre in the distance. (Photograph by Roy Calderwood, 17th December 2025)
