Overhead line problems return to West Midlands Metro

Services on the northern section of the West Midlands Metro have again been disrupted on Tuesday 16th August after damage was reported to the overhead. The disruption was first reported at around 1700 with no estimate for repairs currently given.

In Pictures: Bolton 66 commemorates 40 years in Blackpool

Bolton 66 – which continues to fly the flag for vintage trams in Blackpool – has recently had a celebration of its own with specially invited guests taking a trip on the tram to the Imperial Hotel for afternoon tea. The milestone being celebrated was its 40th year of operation in Blackpool (like everything else a delayed celebration) with the Mayor of Bolton joining their counterpart from Blackpool to enjoy the tram.

In Pictures: 31 back into service on the West Midlands Metro

West Midlands Metro have now used eight Urbos3 trams since services resumed in June with the latest to return to service being 31, which like most of its fellow class members has returned to action with sections of plain white where the vinyls have yet to be applied.

Free travel on NET for children attending summer club

Tramlink Nottingham – operators of Nottingham Express Transit – have confirmed that they will be offering free travel on the trams for 360 children who are attending the Government’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme in Nottingham during the summer holidays. The summer holiday clubs are available for children who are eligible for free school meals and are possible thanks to central government funding.

In Pictures: Sheffield tram bodies at Sandtoft

Sandtoft is best know as being the home of the Trolleybus Museum with a large collection of trolleybuses which are operated around the museum site on trolley days. But its also the home of two grounded tram bodies from Sheffield which are in use for displays and general information, although their origins are still clear to see. West Midlands Metro welcomes 46 to the UK

After a gap of nine months, the West Midlands Metro has welcomed another new tram to its network with CAF Urbos100 46 being delivered to Wednesbury Depot on 10th August 2022. This is the ninth of this exact class of tram and is the 30th CAF tram to now have been delivered to the West Midlands.

Seaton Wetlands Halt opens

Trams on the Seaton Tramway are now regularly calling at the new Seaton Wetlands Halt (as well as that at Riverside Depot) following the official opening on 1st August 2022. The new halt gives visitors the chance to explore Seaton Wetlands giving never seen before views across the salt marshes of Colyford Common.

Overhead line damage leads to Tyne & Wear Metro disruption

Tyne and Wear Metro services between Haymarket and Airport and Haymarket and Four Lane Ends were suspended from the afternoon of Wednesday 10th August following damage to the overhead line. The damage occurred in the Gosforth area with engineers on the scene to assess and then conduct repairs.

In Pictures: Blackpool Flexity2 004 back into service

The Blackpool Tramway has welcomed back Flexity2 004 into its operational fleet – some three and a half years since it last ran with passengers on board! The tram has remained at Starr Gate Depot throughout this period with an undefined fault but over recent months work has been ongoing to return it to action which duly happened on Tuesday 9th August.

In Pictures: Birmingham Eastside extension update

Amongst the opening of the Birmingham Westside extension, splitting of the Brierley Hill line into two phases and the continuing delays to the Wolverhampton Railway Station extension, there is one other extension being built on the West Midlands Metro – the Birmingham Eastside line. Due to run for 1.7km it will leave the current Birmingham City Centre line at the Bull Street/Corporation Street delta junction (installed last year) and travel to High Street Deritend via the HS2 railway station at Curzon Street.
