In Pictures: Ocean Terminal construction work

Tramway and cruise ship anyone? Showing what may be possible when trams start to run (hopefully in less than a years time!) this latest article heading onto the Trams to Newhaven extension in Edinburgh shows some more construction progress close to Ocean Terminal – with an added cruise ship for good measure!

Due to open in spring 2023 the Trams to Newhaven project will see services on Edinburgh Trams extended between York Place and Newhaven with much of the line running along Leith Walk before it heads past Ocean Terminal and then on to a new terminus at Newhaven.

This is near the foot of the ramp down from Newhaven terminus which is only a few hundred yards behind the photographer. We’re looking towards Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre and the city bound track is on the left with the Newhaven bound track on the right. Road traffic will continue to operate either side of the tracks. The cruise ship is “Sirena” which was built in France in 1999 and after operating under several names received this one when Oceania Cruises acquired it in 2016. The low building in front of the ship’s bow is the cruise liner terminal, offices for an advertising agency and Forth Ports Leith, it was originally a visitor centre for the Royal Yacht Britannia.
