Overhead line problems return to West Midlands Metro

Services on the northern section of the West Midlands Metro have again been disrupted on Tuesday 16th August after damage was reported to the overhead. The disruption was first reported at around 1700 with no estimate for repairs currently given.

The damage to the overhead was close to Priestfield and following the first reports at 1700 services were suspended between Wednesbury Parkway and Wolverhampton St George’s. After further investigations the service was extended through to Priestfield less than an hour later meaning all trams were running Edgbaston Village to Priestfield only.

As usual there was ticket acceptance on the National Express West Midlands 79 bus between Wolverhampton St George’s and Priestfield along with West Midlands Rail and Avanti trains from Wolverhampton to Birmingham.

In a post on the West Midlands Metro they stated: “Our engineers are assessing the damage and working to repair the lines as quickly as possible.” At the time of writing no estimate has been given for a service resumption but on Twitter it has been said they hope things will be back to normal from the start of Wednesday 17th August.
