Picture in Time: Blackpool Brush 633

After three weeks of OMOs in Fleetwood “Picture in Time” this week returns to Blackpool where we’re back with crew operated trams.

That tram is Brush Car 633 which is seen pausing at Tower in May 1977 when working through to Fleetwood. The slogan used to be “always a tram in sight” but this is a relatively quiet early season scene which is taken from the old Tower bridge. North Pier and the Cenotaph provide the backdrop.

Today 633 looks very different to this as it was converted to the Illuminated Trawler at the turn of the century (entering service August 2001) – the first new illuminated feature car since the 1960s. Now fitted with LEDs the tram sees limited usage each year with the Western Train and Frigate preferred (along with the Trawler in recent years having recurring faults).
