Seven published poets are currently showcasing their works on the Tyne and Wear Metro as part of a new project to bring poetry to a wider audience. The verses are being displayed on large posters on the platforms at Longbenton with this new scheme forming part of the Art on Transport programme.

August Bank Holiday to see next Enhanced Weekend for Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours

With the August Bank Holiday weekend fast approaching (the last before Christmas!) the first details of the latest Enhanced Weekend for Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours have been announced. West Midlands Metro trams on the move again – to Worksop

There was a time when seeing a tram on back of a lorry was a rare sight which made it incredibly newsworthy. But the past few years have seen tram moves becoming ten a penny, if its not another Blackpool tram being moved (often back to where it came from a couple of years ago!) it’s a modern tram arriving at its new home. Probably the biggest customer for haulage companies over the past few years has been the West Midlands Metro and it looks like they have found another reason to get on the back of a lorry.

In Pictures: Metrolink 3023’s Pride livery

As we reported a few days ago, Manchester Metrolink 3023 has recently received a new vinyl wrap livery to celebrate the upcoming Manchester Pride event (taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend). With the slogan “Love Connects Everyone” it also includes the rainbow colours of LGBTQIA+ whilst retaining the normal fleet livery ends.

In Pictures: Supertram trackworks extended

The summer rail replacement works on the Stagecoach Supertram network had been planned to be completed on Sunday 6th August with normal services resuming the following day. Unfortunately, with the continued wet weather this summer it became necessary to extend the period of the works for a further 48 hours with attention to the track at Shalesmoor taking place during this extension.

There is a new highest numbered tram in town after the delivery of West Midlands Metro’s Urbos100 58 to Wednesbury Depot on Wednesday 9th August 2023. This leaves just two of the initial order of 21 trams to turn up, although there is the “extra” 22nd tram to also come, no. 59.

Mother and daughter crew trams at Crich

Sarah and Rebecca Brightman have entered the history books at the Crich Tramway Village by becoming the very first mother and daughter tram crew at the museum. The milestone was achieved after Rebecca, 16, passed out as a tram conductor recently.
