In Pictures: Images on the Birmingham Eastside extension

This latest look at construction works on the West Midlands Metro Birmingham Eastside extension views the continued removal of rubble from the old McDonald’s and work by Birmingham Coach Station.

The Birmingham Eastside extension will eventually leave the current city centre line at the junction of Bull Street and Corporation Street and run to High Street Deritend. It will include new stops for both Birmingham Coach Station and the HS2 Station at Curzon Street (in total four new stops will be provided). There is no opening date for the complete line because it is tied in with HS2 works.

Dale End and where there used to be a McDonald’s there is no empty land. Much of the rubble of the old buildings has also now been removed – this is due to be reused in other areas of the project as an aid to sustainability.

Tracks and final road surface are down just outside Birmingham Coach Station where further work is also underway. Note the curved rails awaiting installation.

Further along the road and we can see that track has been laid but still awaits further surfacing work. (All Photographs by Ken Jones, 9th August 2023)
