Crich Tramway Village appoint new Fundraising Manager

Roger Shelley has been appointed into the crucial role of Fundraising Manager at the Crich Tramway Village. In this role Roger will be responsible for helping the museum secure funding to allow them to continue development of the facilities as well as the tram fleet.

Repairs to take place on overhead in Edinburgh

At the end of last week it was revealed that owing to an overhead line fault at Newhaven trams on the Edinburgh Trams network were only able to run between the Airport and Ocean Terminal. Now seven days on and an update has been provided which has confirmed that repairs are necessary.

The Completely Random A-Z of Trams in the British Isles! A is for Anniversary

In this latest photographic series – and as part of our usual December celebration month – we will be featuring “The Completely Random A-Z of Trams in the British Isles!”. The premise is quite simple, each day the series runs (obviously as there are only 26 letters in the alphabet and 31 days in the month it won’t quite be featuring every day during December) we feature a photo that represents that letter – some are more obvious than others, in fact some letters we could probably have run a complete series on its own!, but we do have something for every letter in the alphabet. There may some more obvious examples for some of the letters but this is mainly what first came into my head when planning the series! To start us off we have A is for Anniversary.

Its 1st December and not only does that mean its our 21st birthday but its also time for the return of the British Trams Online Advent Calendars! You know by now that we bring you two Advent Calendars each year – one featuring Traditional Trams and the other one Modern Trams. In Pictures: Work at Wolverhampton St George’s

It was late August the last time we saw trams running in service to Wolverhampton St George’s but it now appears that the signalling work being undertaken there has now been concluded which will hopefully mean at some point in the future there may be a return for services – and at the same time allowing both Wolverhampton termini to be served by trams from Edgbaston Village.

Special interest groups get first look at the new Metro train

Nexus have recently invited special interest groups to experience the new Stadler Metro trains to allow them to also see how their feedback has shaped the final interior design. The groups have included people with visual and hearing impairments, physical and learning disabilities as well as cyclists.

Zero tolerance campaign against fare dodgers to be launched on NET

Starting from Monday 4th December, Nottingham Express Transit will be starting a zero tolerance campaign as part of its continued efforts to crack down on fare evasion. This will see an increase in the presence of plain clothed officers at both tramstops and on board trams to help reinforce the message that fare evasion is theft.

Blackpool Balloon 708 heads to Sandtoft

Article updated 29/11/2023 with the addition of photos.

Another week and another tram takes a journey on the back of a low loader! This time it’s the turn of Blackpool Balloon 708 which departed Rigby Road Depot in its home town to make the trip to the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft where it is set to become a play tram as the museum continues to increase their family offering.

Increase in passenger numbers on the Isle of Man heritage lines!

Some pleasing news to report from the Isle of Man is a major increase in passenger numbers recorded on the various heritage lines on the island – including for both the Manx Electric Railway and the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway.

Tyne and Wear Metro continues to struggle with performance

The Tyne and Wear Metro is in a bit of a holding pattern at the moment as they wait for the introduction of their new trains whilst trying to maintain the 40 year old vehicles which continue to show their age leading to reliability issues. Over the past couple of four week periods, performance has been getting lower and when compared to 2022 it has been down considerably.

In Pictures: Another tram arrives at Dudley

Over the past roughly 12 months we have been used to seeing trams move to the Dudley Very Light Rail Innovation Centre as its been the base for repairs to be undertaken on some of the Urbos3 trams to solve the cracked bodyside panel issue. When on Friday 24th November another tram was moved that way you would have expected it to be another of those trams on the back of the Allely’s low loader – but no, although it was a tram which once ran on the Midland Metro network, it was in fact the highest numbered of the T69s! Yes, 16 is now resident at the Very Light Rail Innovation Centre!
