Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: Ashton New Road

We are back here with another installment of “Manchester Metrolink Then & Now” taking a look at photos of the same location both during construction and after trams started to run.

Having last week been on Alan Turing Way on the East Manchester Line we stay in the same vicinity close to the Velopark stop outside the Asda supermarket. This time we are looking northeast on Ashton New Road towards where the actual stop is located today.

On 18th February 2010 we are looking to the northeast where work is underway on initial construction. Asda is on the left and the tracks will eventually lead from the left and to where the digger can be seen, which is also where Velopark stop will be.

3097 is then seen departing from the completed Velopark stop on 21st July 2023. This is one of the easier locations to identify in the then and new shots with the Asda supermarket still on the left. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
